Abstract

Current research in consumer behavior indicates that most consumer choices are characterized by adaptive processes. In this article, a model of selection and implementation of processing strategies in consumer choice and evaluation situations is presented and some of its implications are experimentally tested. The results show that consumers are not merely adaptive but rather tend to rely on learned general processing strategies.
