Why Mumbai at 1PM is the Center of the Business World

Abstract

Map out how 12 major cities' workdays overlap and you'll see that the American workday is a terrible time to try to get the rest of the world on the phone. The time zone champion is India. Lunchtime in Mumbai spans part of the workdays of most of Europe, Johannesburg, Moscow, the Gulf States, India, and East Asia. In fact, Mumbai's workday overlaps with the workdays of countries that account for 73% of the world's GDP, compared with only 33% for New York's day.
