Predictors of the Survival of Innovations

Abstract

The length of survival of an innovation introduced in the marketplace strongly affects its expected economic returns. Research on this topic is however sparse. We find that the survival of innovations introduced in the marketplace depends on anticipated stable demand, price required for profitability, the degree of competition (marginally), and technical product maturity.
